2024 Garbage Rates

Portage Borough Council has set the 2024 Garbage collection rates for Borough Residents. This will be effective from January 1st, 2024 through December 31st, 2024.

The curb side service, including Spring Clean up will be $19.20 per month

The pre-paid bags (10) per pack will be $34.50

Recreation Director Position

Exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, results oriented professional to lead a newly created Portage Area Joint Parks and Recreation Commission.  We are seeking a dynamic leader to create, direct, develop and oversee a comprehensive set of parks and recreation services for the residents of the Portage Area.  Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation required.  Master’s or advanced degree preferred.  Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the parks and recreation field.  Candidates must have a varied background in recreation programming with demonstrated competence in organizing and operating activities for all ages, interest and abilities; prior experience overseeing successful fundraising, and a proven track records of successful grant writing.  The ideal candidate will be able to lead people, manage financial and accounting need, attract and nurture financial contributors, and develop strong community partnerships.  Salary $50,000.00 to $55,000.00 DOQ, plus a full benefit package.  Position description available at www.portageboro.com and www.portagetwp.com Send a letter of interest, resume and contact information for three professional references to Mr. Robert Koban.  Applications only accepted electronically to pboro@comcast.net.    

Per Capita Tax

To all Borough Residents, Please be advised that the 2023 per capita taxes are now considered delinquent. The $5.00 tax has been in effect since 6/6/1966 and is being taxed on every resident in the borough over 18 years of age. There are no exemptions on age, disability, military, etc. If you have not received a 2023 per capita tax bill, please call the Borough Office at 814.736.4330. If the resident is deceased, moved, etc. please also notify David Layo at 814.615.3938 so he can update the per capita tax book as well.

Patrol Officers

Portage Borough is accepting applications for part time police officer. The candidate will be required to work 32 hours per week.  Must be Act 120 Certified, community minded, demonstrate interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills.  The part time officer is required to pass a background check, physical and drug test.  Pay is commensurate with experience.
