Building Permit Process
Portage Borough is moving forward with implementing several improvement projects to enhance the community.  This webpage provides up to date information on the projects.

 Portage Area Comprehensive Plan

Portage Borough, Portage, Township, Cassandra Borough, the Portage Area Planning Commission, and the Eads Group present the drafts of the Portage Area Comprehensive and trail feasibility study for public comment.  The study is presented in a pdf format for your review.

A public hearing will be held on the Portage Area Regional Plan Moving Forward Issue and Recommendations on Monday, June 10th at 7:00 p.m. at the Portage Elementary School Auditorium.

The Draft of the Trail Feasibility Plan

 

 Main & Dulancey Intersection

This project consists of widening the curb radius in the northeast quadrant of the interection to accomodate larger vehicles.  The design also includes proposed curb ramps and sidewalks to be upgraded to current ADA requirements.  Overlay of bituminous material will be from the Sonman Bridge to the railroad crossing at North Railroad Avenue.    Several meetings have been held at the Crimson Room between Penn Dot representatives; Portage Borough, Portage Planning Commission, Amfire Mining, Alpha Natural Resources, Stager Enterprises, and the Cambria County Planning Commission.

 Mountain Avenue Sidewalk Project

Portage Borough was successfully awarded the 2013-2014 Transportation Enhancement for the Portage Borough Pedestrian Corridor Enhancement Project in the amount of $233,000.00.  Scheduled meetings for the project have begun with PennDot representatives; Borough Officials, and the Portage Area Planning Commission.  As of theMay 5th, 2013 regular meeting, the surveying is complete and the design phase is now being developed.  The Engineer's will present Council with a draft to review once completed.

 Demo's and Renovations

At the May 5th regular meeting, the old Rex Theater is hopefully to be demolished by the end of May.

Mainline Pharmacy has acquired the 619 Main Street property.  The structure is the process of obtaining the necessary permits for demolition to begin by the end of May.

The Olde Kegg is undergoing inside and outside renovations and expansion.  Kevin Zock has been working diligently on the project and is commended for his efforts.

Gary's Steals and Deals has acquired the building next door and expanded its business.  The Main Street storefront has been cosmetically lifted with new sidewalks and siding.
